First setup¶
Complete these steps before opening MRBS to regular users.
Create the first administrator¶
The default authentication method is db. On a new installation MRBS asks
you to create the first administrator account.
Use a unique account with a strong password. Create separate non-administrator accounts for normal bookings instead of using the administrator account for daily work.
If you selected another authentication backend, define its administrator mapping before continuing. See Authentication.
Create an area¶
An area groups rooms that share a location, timetable, or booking policy. Examples include a building, office, campus, or collection of equipment.
- Sign in as an administrator.
- Open Rooms.
- Add an area.
- Set its timezone, opening hours, time resolution, and booking policy.
- Save the area.
Area settings stored in the database apply to that area. Changes to
areadefaults.inc.php or equivalent overrides only affect areas created later.
Create a room¶
Each bookable resource is represented as a room.
- Open the area from Rooms.
- Add a room.
- Give it a clear name and description.
- Add contact details or an administrator address if required.
- Save the room.
Rooms can represent more than physical meeting rooms—for example vehicles, equipment, desks, or teaching spaces.
Make a test booking¶
Open a calendar view, choose an available time slot, and create a short test booking. Verify that:
- the booking appears in the expected room and timezone;
- another overlapping booking is rejected;
- the creator can edit or delete the booking;
- an administrator can manage it; and
- configured email recipients receive a message.
Delete the test booking when verification is complete.
Review the installation¶
As an administrator, open Help and confirm:
- MRBS reports version 1.12.2;
- the expected database system is connected;
- the intended authentication and session methods are active;
- the server time and room timezone are correct; and
- required PHP extensions are loaded.
Then review:
