Requirements¶
MRBS 1.12.2 is a PHP application backed by MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL. Prepare the application server and database before installing the files.
Supported platform¶
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| PHP | 7.2.5 | A currently supported PHP release |
| MySQL | 5.5.3 | 5.7.5 or later |
| MariaDB | Compatible MySQL release | 10.0.2 or later |
| PostgreSQL | 8.2 | A currently supported PostgreSQL release |
| Browser | Modern browser | JavaScript enabled |
MRBS can run under any web server supported by PHP. Apache, nginx with PHP-FPM, and IIS are common choices.
Version scope
These are the requirements published with MRBS 1.12.2. Your operating system and database vendor may impose newer supported versions.
PHP extensions¶
Install the extension for the database you intend to use, together with the required and recommended extensions below.
| Extension | Status | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
iconv |
Required | Character-set conversion and internationalisation |
pdo_mysql |
Required for MySQL/MariaDB | Database connection |
pdo_pgsql |
Required for PostgreSQL | Database connection |
intl |
Recommended | Locale-aware formatting and collation |
mbstring |
Recommended | Multibyte string handling |
Other features can require additional extensions. LDAP authentication needs
ldap; IMAP authentication needs imap; and some integrations have their own
requirements.
Check the active command-line PHP installation with:
The web server may use a different PHP installation. After setup, an administrator can open Help in MRBS to see the PHP version and loaded extensions used by the web application.
Database access¶
Create:
- an empty database for MRBS;
- a database account MRBS can use at runtime; and
- credentials with schema-changing rights for installation and upgrades.
The upgrade account can be separate from the lower-privileged runtime account. Always back up the database before an upgrade.
Before continuing¶
You should know:
- the timezone of the rooms being booked;
- whether you will use MySQL/MariaDB or PostgreSQL;
- the database host, name, username, and password;
- the public URL at which MRBS will be served; and
- which authentication method you intend to use.
